Prior to 9/11 I was apathetic, apolitical and ignorantly blind to the realities of true evil around the world. I woke that day and haven't been able to sleep since. I am not a RWE though that is probably how the Left would categorize me. Oh well!

Hmmm...just noticed that you call yourself a 9/11 conservative. Does that mean you could possibly revert to whatever political philosophy you held before? I know someone who did that. His reversion isn't going well.

Anyway...to the point of your post: the Left needs a scapegoat, someone or some group on which they can pile their fears of the Other. And when that Other turns out to be A Terrorist, yet they're not permitted by the precepts of their Leftist religion to notice Terrorism or even say "that" word, then they have to manufacture a look-alike.

Ta da! Enter the knuckle dragging Right Wing. Oops. Make that the Extremist knuckle-dragging Right Wing. Put Terrorist on the end of that and you have them militia types living out in the boonies marrying their cousins and running stills or (these days) meth labs. (Ignore the fact that Illinois is the proud home of the most meth labs in the US and those guys voted for Obama).

Look at where the guy shot all those college stuents: Virginia.
Look at where Major Hasan grew up: Virginia.
Look at where the Beltway Snipers hid out: Virginia.

QED.

Regarding the above comment. I appreciate your feedback but want to point out one thing. Nowhere did I mention Arabs or Muslims when discussing profiling. I said "terrorists". Racial/ethnic profiling is wrong but behavioural profiling and identifying suspicious activities are used legally and effectively now by law enforcement. I worry that a fear of being accused of "profiling" by belligerent anti-American groups like the ACLU and CAIR will cause us to hesitate in reporting any potential danger.

Your liberties are intact at the moment, but Bush severely damaged the the protections to our liberty that the founders put in the constitution. Bush arrested a citizen of the US, Jose Padilla, and held him in military detention for years without hearing or representation. He assumed the right to do this as a president during wartime, though congress never declared war, as is required by the Constitution.
Jose Padilla is probably a pretty bad guy, but the fact remains that he was detained for years with out any due process. Theoretically, there's nothing in the current law that would prevent the same thing from happening to you.
Under the precedent set by Bush, a president, like Obama, could have YOU arrested by declaring you an enemy combatant. Of course, you're not an enemy combatant, but without a hearing, HOW CAN YOU PROVE THAT? All that is required to be declared an enemy combatant is the say-so of the president.
The Bush administration also circumvented reasonable protections of civil liberties by bypassing the FISA court to execute wire-taps without warrants, even though the FISA court approved the vast majority of wire-tap requests ever put before it. Without the need to obtain a warrant, a president could use wiretapping against his political enemies with no accountability whatsoever, and in fact, the Bush administration did execute wire taps against journalists.
Perhaps you trust Bush, but maybe you don't trust Obama as much. The only thing keeping you from being detained indefinitely without due process are your own obscurity and the fact that Obama is not inclined to arrest his political enemies, as far as we know. The constitutional protections of our civil liberties are there to protect us because we, as a nation, don't think it's wise to trust our political leaders. This nation was born and the Constitution was forged by a profound mistrust of power.
Profiling, besides the fact that it is immoral, is just stupid. There are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, and millions of Arabs. It's impossible to tell from looking at someone if they are Arab or Muslim. Profiling generates an overwhelming number of false positives and actually makes it easier for terrorists to slip through. While we're looking for a man from the middle east, they recruit a guy from California. This isn't just my opinion, but a widely held opinion by experts in the field. It's not political correctness, it's good police work.
